About the book
Did you know that Hobart is one of the world’s great literary cities and that Tassie’s trophy shelf is overflowing with national and international literary awards and bestseller books by our local authors! In 2023, in recognition of Hobart’s vibrant literary culture, the UN officially designated Hobart a UNESCO City of Literature! Voices of the Southern Ocean is the first initiative of the Hobart UNESCO City of Literature. All profits from the book go to UNESCO Hobart City of Literature to fund literary initiatives around the city.
Voices of the Southern Ocean is a showcase of Hobart’s contemporary literary talent, bringing together over 50 writers and artists from Nipaluna/Hobart and beyond with all-original short works inspired by the vast and mysterious waters that lie just south of our little island. The collection includes splash fiction, reflective prose, micro-nonfiction and polar poetry, with works by some of our city (and country’s) bestselling and award-winning authors, exciting emerging talent and some bonafide living legends. With over 50 writers & artists, it’s the largest ensemble of Tassie literary works in one book!
